The growth of some well-known oil producing algal strains and the related bio components they produce are studied in RE-CORD laboratory with the aim of pushing the metabolic trigger to the production of different high value molecules (such as fatty acids, phytopigments and phytosterols) focusing on both energetic and nutraceutical fields.

Since the production and accumulation of bioactive compounds is often linked to stresses, such as alteration photoperiod and the irradiance, tests are conducted in a versatile photobioreactor, or solar simulator, designed and built in-house with the aim of accelerating the research activities in the algae sector by reproducing both common or extreme conditions at lab scale.
