ITAKA demonstrated a very innovative concept promoting the development of aviation biofuels in an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable manner, giving a significant impulse to technology and infrastructures, developing a full value-chain in Europe to produce sustainable drop-in Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids at a scale large enough to allow testing in existing logistic systems and normal flight operations in the EU. Both camelina and UCO (Used Cooking Oil) were considered as sustainable alternative feedstock in the project. Itaka also contributed to create a strong and effective relationship between feedstock growers, biofuel producers, distributors and final users (airlines).
